Jim Schantz has lived in the Berkshires since 1982. Since moving to Stockbridge in 1998, Schantz served on the Conservation Commission for four years, was a volunteer for Housatonic Valley Association and organized the River Art Project at Stockbridge Station to help raise funds for HVA, Housatonic River Initiative and Hudson Riverkeeper. Schantz was a member of the Stockbridge Fire Department from 2006-2016. Among his favorite Laurel Hill Properties are Laura’s Tower Trail and Lower Bowker’s Woods.
Schantz received his BFA from Syracuse University, his MFA from University of California, Davis. He has taught painting in numerous institutions, including; California State College (Stanislaus, Turlock, CA); Berkshire Community College (Pittsfield, MA); Westfield State College (Westfield, MA); and Simon’s Rock of Bard College (Great Barrington, MA). He and his wife own Schantz Galleries Contemporary Glass in Stockbridge.
