The Four Corners property is a western gateway to the town. It is made up of both wooded upland and wetland areas. It comprises two separate parcels:
- Uplands (22.95 acres) – The uplands slope easterly down to the wetlands. There is a 60' wide access strip west to Route 183.
- Wetlands (27.90 acres) – Larrywaug Brook enters from the north under Route 102 and meanders south toward the Housatonic River.
Four Corners is one of the Association's recent acquisitions. It was the second property procured via joint preservation efforts with the Stockbridge Land Trust. The SLT purchased the original 58+ acres from the estate of Carmella Delmolino in a deed filed February 2, 2010. The purchase cost was split 50/50 between the Association and the SLT. On June 22, 2012 the SLT sold the 5+ acre corner meadow, with deed restriction, to the Berkshire Botanical Garden. The SLT transferred a 2-acre developable lot to both the Association and the SLT, now tenants in common. The SLT transferred the remaining 50+ acres to the Association in a deed filed July 30, 2012.
This property abuts the Association's new Byron Preserve, which affords a wide access to Route 183.
Conservation Restriction. The Uplands parcel was conveyed subject to a Conservation Restriction granted to the Stockbridge Land Trust and the Town of Stockbridge Conservation Commission, filed on October 10, 2012. The Wetland portion is not developable and therefore did not need a CR.
Trails. None at this time. A trail has been proposed by the Stockbridge Bike Committee.
SIze. 47.85 acres
Property a short distance southeast of the intersection of Routes 102 and 183. Bounded on the north by Route 102, on the southwest by the Byron Preserve, and on the east by Pine Woods housing. On the west and south are privately-owned lands.
Starting at the Red Lion Inn, head west on Main Street/Route 102. Stay on Route 102 about 2 miles. The wetland parcel is on the left, just before the Route 102/183 intersection (blinking light). Turn left/south onto Route 183. Go about half a mile south toward Glendale. The upland parcel is at the rear of the wide open meadow (Byron Preserve) on the left/east. No parking is available at present.
