Laurel Hill Day was held on Saturday, August 8. The program, presided over by Shelby Marshall, President, included an inspiring address by Will Conklin, Director of Greenagers (shown in the photo).
LHA Trustee Erin Glasheen-Sheldon presented our annual college scholarship to Megan Cort, a rising senior at Bard College at Simon’s Rock who is majoring in Environmental and Sustainable Studies with a concentration in Environmental Historical Preservation. Brent Damrow, Pastor of Stockbridge's First Congregational Church, gave a moving invocation and benediction. And delightful music was provided by Doug Schmoze on guitar and Eric Martin on violin.
We also enjoyed an unusual treat. We sang the song "Old Laurel Hill," which was first sung at Laurel Hill Day on August 22, 1888, to an 18th century tune. Barbara Allen, LHA Trustee and Curator of the Stockbridge Library Museum and Archives, discovered it recently. Doug Schmoze and Eric Martin led everyone in singing it together.
Refreshments were provided by LHA Trustees Mary Balle and Helen Pigott. Trustee Pat Flinn prepared the program.
Thanks to everyone who attended.
